Identification & Behavior: ~20.5 cm (8 in). The Barred Antthrush has brown upperparts. It has a characteristic finely barred postocular stripe, malar area, and stripe down the neck. The underparts are tightly barred black and white. It ranges higher and is unlikely to overlap with the range of the Short-tailed Antthrush and Striated Antthrush.

Status: The Barred Antthrush is rare on the forest floor of montane forest on the east slope of the Andes. It is generally rare at elevations ranging between 1800 and 3100 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Rasconzuelo Barrado

Sub-species: Barred Antthrush (Chamaeza mollissima mollissima) P. L. Sclater 1855. N Peru (N of Marañón River, also just S of there on Cordillera de Colán).
(C. m. yungae) Carriker 1935. SE Peru (Vilcabamba Mts, in Cuzco) to C Bolivia (Yungas of Cochabamba).

Meaning of Name: Gr. khamai= on the ground and khamazē= to live on the ground. L. mollissimus: mollis= soft very soft.
