Status: The Ocellated Tapaculo rare in humid montane forests of the east slope of extreme northeast Peru. It is known to occur at elevations ranging between 2300-3000 m. The Ocellated Tapaculo also occurs in Co and Ec.
Name in Spanish: Tapaculo Ocelado.
Sub-species: Ocellated Tapaculo (Acropternis orthonyx infuscatus), Salvadori and Festa, 1899.
Meaning of Name: Acropternis: Gr. akros= ending in a point, highest and pterne= heel. orthonyx: Gr. orthos= straight and onux, onukhos= claw.
