Identification & Behavior: ~24.7 cm (10 in). The Yellow-billed Nunbird is all black with a white band along the scapular feathers area and yellow bill. It is distinguished from the closely-related Black-fronted Nunbird and White-fronted Nunbird by having white on the scapular feathers, black plumage, and yellow bill.

Status: The Yellow-billed Nunbird is rare throughout its range. It favors Terra Firme forest where it seems to be associated with mixed stands of bamboo. It is also known to range at elevations of up to 1200 m along the foothill of the eastern Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Monja de Pico Amarillo.

Sub-species: Yellow-billed Nunbird (Monasa flavirostris) Strickland, 1850.

Meaning of Name: Monasa: Gr. monas, monos= lonely. flavirostris: L. flavi, flavus=yellow, rostris, rostrum=bill.
