Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (7.2 in). The Picui Ground-Dove is grayish above and grayish brown below. It has a single blue bar on the shoulder and a white band on the wing; readily seen in flight. The iris is white. The bill is dusky. The tail is mostly white except for the central pair of fathers. The flight feathers are black. The breast of males shows a pinkish tinge. It overlaps only with the Ruddy Ground-Dove, but their colorations are rather different.
Status: The Picui Ground-Dove is an Austral migrant to the department of Loreto and southern Ucayali. It is present and uncommon during the months of May through September. It also occurs in Co, Br, Bo, and Ch.
Name in Spanish: Tortolita Picuí.
Sub-species: Picui Ground-Dove (Columbina picui picui), Temminck 1813.
Meaning of Name: Columbina: L. referring to a small version of the family Columbidae. picui: Paraguayan Indian name for a small dove.
