Identification & Behavior: ~17.2 cm (7 in). The male Ruddy Ground-Dove is uniformly reddish brown with black spots on the wings and a grayish blue head. The bill is gray. The tail is black except for the central pair of feathers. The flight feathers are black. The female is a dull version of the male. Its range overlaps with that of the Picui Ground-Dove, but their colorations are rather different. It favors open and semi-open habitats and does not enter forest interiors.

Status: The Ruddy Ground-Dove is common in Amazonia. It is known to range up to 800 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Tortolita Rojiza.

Sub-species: Ruddy Ground Dove (Columbina talpacoti talpacoti), Temminck 1810.

Meaning of Name: Columbina: L. referring to a small version of the family Columbidae. talpacoti: indigenous name for the Ruddy Ground-Dove.
