Identification & Behavior: ~15 cm (6 in). The Yellow-throated Chlorospingus has yellow-olive upperparts, head, and tail. The throat is bright yellow. The underparts are gray with yellow undertail coverts. It has a brown iris and a distinctive gray area between the bill and the eye. The Yellow-throated Chlorospingus forages in pair or small groups along with mixed species flocks in the canopy and subcanopy of humid montane forest on the east slope of the Andes. It is similar to the Short-billed Chlorospingus but is distinguished by having a solid yellow throat, brown iris, and gray between the eye and the base of the bill.

Status: The Yellow-throated Chlorospingus is fairly common in the canopy and sub-canopy of montane forests on the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 750-1850 m. It also occurs in Co and Ec.

Name in Spanish: Chlorospingo de Garganta Amarilla.

Sub-species: Yellow-throated Chlorospingus (Chlorospingus flavigularis flavigularis) (P. L. Sclater), 1852.

Meaning of Name: Chlorospingus: Gr. khloros= green andspingos a form of spinos; probably identical to a spiza finch. flavigularis: L. flavus yellow, golden-yellow and gularis, gula= throat, throated.
