Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (6.8 in). The Buff-fronted Foliage-gleaner has a rufous-brown mantle and crown with somewhat contrasting rufous wings and tail. The throat and sides of the head are buff grading to buffy-brown towards the underparts.  It has a distinctive buff forehead and superciliary that contrasts with the crown. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of montane forest and adjacent lowlands. Its range expands toward the lowlands in southeast Peru. It is similar to the Andean sub-species of the Rufous-rumped Foliage-gleaner but is distinguished by an overall buffy plumage and by a buff forehead.

Status: The Buff-fronted Foliage-Gleaner is uncommon to rare along the foothill of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1000-1700 m. It ranges at lower elevation towards the lowlands in southeast Peru. The Buff-fronted Foliage-Gleaner also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Meaning of Name: Philydor: Gr. phileo= to love and hudor, hudatos= water. Philudros= water-loving. rufum: L. rufus= red, ruddy, rufous.
