Identification & Behavior: ~21 cm (8.2 in). The Henna-hooded Foliage-gleaner has a well-defined rufous hood. The wings and tail are also rufous, which contrast with the brown mantle and underparts. It forages on or near the ground where it picks and tosses dead leaves in search of prey items. Its range overlaps with that of the Rufous-necked Foliage-Gleaner but their plumages are distinctive and have different foraging habitats.

Status: The Henna-hooded Foliage-Gleaner is uncommon in montane forests of the west slope of the Andes in Tumbes, Piura, and Cajamarca, at elevations ranging between 400-1500 m. It also occurs in Ec.

Name in Spanish: Hoja-Rasquero de Capucha Rufa.

Sub-species: Henna-hooded Foliage-gleaner (Clibanornis erythrocephalus erythrocephalus), (Chapman), 1919.  SW Ecuador (coastal cordillera in SW Manabí and W Guayas, also El Oro and W Loja) and extreme NW Peru (Tumbes).

Meaning of Name: Clibanornis: Gr. klibanos= oven, baking oven and ornis, ornithos= bird. erythrocephalus: Gr. eruthros= red and kephalos, kephale= headed, head.
