Identification & Behavior: ~16.5 cm (6.4 in). The Line-fronted Canastero has rufous-brown upperparts with a plain (huallagae) or faintly streaked (urubambensis) mantle. The crown is rufous-brown. The sides of the head, neck, and the rest of the underparts are heavily streaked with whitish. It has a thin and pale supercilium. It forages in humid or semi-humid Andean scrub. It is very similar to the Junin Canastero but is distinguished by a heavily streaked breast, but not streaks on the mantle and upper wing coverts.

Status: The Line-fronted Canastero is uncommon on the east slope of the Andes 3100-3800 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Canastero de Frente Listada.

Sub-species: Line-fronted Canastero (Asthenes urubambensis huallagae), J. T. Zimmer, 1924.  Andes of C Peru (San Martín S to Pasco).
(Asthenes urubambensis urubambensis), (Chapman), 1919.  Andes of S Peru (Cuzco, Puno) and W Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba).

Meaning of Name: Asthenes: Gr. a= a negative prefix and sthenos= power. asthenes= insignificant, powerless. urubambensis: Originating or associated with Río Urubamba, Peru.
