Identification & Behavior: ~30 cm (12 in). The Paradise Jacamar looks black with a white throat and a long graduated tail. In good light, it is dark blue with iridescent green in the wings. They forage above the canopy of tall pristine forest where they are difficult to observe. Their unique appearance and foraging habitat make the Paradise Jacamar unmistakable.
Status: The Paradise Jacamar is rare throughout its extensive range in the Amazonian lowlands. However, they can be uncommon in some areas of their extensive range. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.
Name in Spanish: Jacamar del Paraíso.
