Identification & Behavior: ~16 cm (6.3 in). The Tawny Antpitta varies in plumage coloration. Birds south and east of the Marañon Valley (G. q. atuensis) are darker with olive-brown upperparts including the top of the head. The underparts are tawny-brown with pale specks. Birds north and west of the Marañon Valley (G. q. quitensis) are warmer tawny in coloration. It forages at forest edges and also Andean scrub where it is rather confident. Status: The Tawny Antpitta is fairly common at elevations ranging between 2800 – 3500 m. It also occurs in Co, and Ec.
