Identification & Behavior: 21 cm (8.5 in). The White-edged Oriole is mostly yellow-orange. The bib, back, wings and tail are black. The wings show a yellow bar and a white band on the secondary flight feathers. The outer tail feathers show white on the edges and the tips. The juvenile is a dull version of the adult without yellow on the wing and a reduced bib. It is similar to the Yellow-tailed Oriole but is distinguished by being overall richer yellow or yellow-orange, and by a black tail with white edges on the outer tail feathers.
Status: The White-edged Oriole is uncommon in dry scrub in the northwestern lowlands and foothill of the Andes where it reaches elevations of up to 1500 m. It also occurs in Ec. It overlaps with the Yellow-tailed Oriole in most of its range but does not occur in the Marañon Drainage.
