Identification & Behavior: ~25 cm (9.8 in). The Brown-backed Mockingbird has gray underparts. The upperparts are brown with a rusty rump. It has white wing patch at the base of the primary flight feathers. The tail gray with the outer tail feathers white.
Status: The Brown-backed Mockingbird is known in Peru from a sight record and photograph at Lake Huacarpay area in Cusco. It also occurs in Bo.
Name in Spanish: Calandria de Dorso Pardo.
Sub-species: Brown-backed Mockingbird (Mimus dorsalis) (Lafresnaye & Orbigny, 1837).
Meaning of Name: Mimus: L. mimus= to mimic or imitate. dorsalis: L. backed, of the back. Refers to the back as the distinctive characteristic of this species of Mimus.
