Identification & Behavior: ~14.3 cm (5.5 in). The Northern Waterthrush is olive-brown above with a creamy or pale conspicuous superciliary. The underparts are pale or creamy streaked with black. It often teeters the rear parts.  The Northern Waterthrush forages along the edges of wooded or semi-wooded ponds and streams.

Status: The Northern Waterthrush is a rare Boreal migrant known in Peru from only a few sight records. It is known to winter as far south as northern Ecuador and eastern Colombia. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.

Name in Spanish: Reinita-Acuática Norteña.

Sub-species: Northern Waterthrush (Parkesia noveboracensis) (J. F. Gmelin), 1789.

Meaning of Name: Parkesia: In honor of Dr. Kenneth Carroll Parkes (1922-2007) US ornithologist.
noveboracensis: L. novus= new and Eboracum= in reference to York, England or New York, USA.
