Status: The Rufous-breasted Piculet is uncommon to rare in thickets and vines tangles in floodplain Amazonian forest. They are often associated with stands of bamboo thickets of Guadua bamboo.

Meaning of Name: Picumnus: Fr. Picumne, Piculet= little woodpecker. rufiventris: L. rufi= red, brown, rufous and ventris= belly.
