Identification & Behavior: ~43 cm (17 in). The Flesh-footed Shearwater is uniformly blackish-brown. The underwing is also blackish-brown. The bill is pinkish with a black bill tip. The legs and feet are also pinkish. It forages in pelagic waters. It is very similar to the Sooty Shearwater but is distinguished by having blackish-brown underwing and pinkish legs and bill. The White-chinned Petrel and Westland Petrel are larger and also have blackish-brown underwing.
Status: The Flesh-footed Shearwater is a rare non-breeding visitor known from only sight records. Further documentation is needed. It also occurs in Ch.
Name in Spanish: Pardela de Pata Pálida.
Sub-species: Flesh-footed Shearwater (Ardenna carneipes), Gould, 1844.
Meaning of Name: Ardenna: L. Ardenna or Artènna= Name given to the Diomedean or seabirds in some Italian dialects. carneipes: L. caro, carnis= flesh and pes, pedis= foot.
Formerly known as Puffinus carneiceps (2018).
