Identification & Behavior: ~14 cm (5.5 in). The Amazonian Parrotlet is all green with bluish forehead and crown. The bill is pale. The tail is relatively short and pointy. It forages in pairs or small flocks along forest edges. It appears to be associated with bamboo patches in southeast Peru. It is similar to the Blue-winged Parrotlet and Dusky-billed Parrotlet but is distinguished by the bluish forehead and crown and the lack of a blue on the rump and wings.

Status: The Amazonian Parrotlet is generally uncommon in Amazonia. It is known to occur in southeast Peru, but it may be overlooked in the rest of western Amazonia. It is known to range to up to 900 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Periquito Amazónico.

Sub-species: Amazonian Parrotlet (Nannopsittaca dachilleae), O’Neill, Munn and Franke, 1991.

Meaning of Name: Nannopsittaca: Gr. nannos= dwarf and psittake= parrot, parakeet. dedachilleae= in honor of Italian journalist and ecologist based in Peru, Barbara D’Achille.
