Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (7.2 in). The White-throated Sierra-Finch is gray with a white throat and a pale lower belly. Sexes are alike. It forages on the ground on open land with scattered bushes and shrubs. It is very similar to the White-winged Diuca-Finch but is distinguished by having solid gray wings and lacking a white crescent below the eye.

Status: The White-throated Sierra-Finch is uncommon and restricted the west slope of the Andes in central Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna. It ranges at elevations between 4200-4600 m. The White-throated Sierra-Finch also occurs in Bo and Ch.

Name in Spanish: Fringilo de Garganta Blanca.

Sub-species: White-throated Sierra-Finch (Idiopsar erythronotus), (R. A. Philippi and Landbeck)  1861.

Meaning of Name: Idiopsar: Gr. idios= peculiar, distinct and psar, psaros= starling. erythronotus: Gr. eruthros= red and notos, noton= back, backed.

Formerly known as Phrygilus erythronotus (2018).
