Identification & Behavior: ~26 cm (10.2 in). The Variegated Tinamou has a gray head with a whitish throat. The neck and underparts are reddish brown with the rest of the body barred dusky and brown. It is similar to the Bartlett’s Tinamou, but distinguished by having a dusky head and favoring Terra Firme Forest.
Status: The Variegated Tinamou is fairly common and largely restricted to Terra Firme forest. It is known to range to elevations of 1000 m along the foothill of the eastern Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.
Name in Spanish: Perdiz Abigarrada.
Sub-species: Variegated Tinamou (Crypturellus variegatus) Gmelin, 1789.
