Identification & Behavior: ~34.5 cm (13.5 in). The White-throated Tinamou is mostly brown. The upperparts are richer brown with white spots on the wings and rump. It has a dusky head, white throat, and brown neck with dusky specks. The White-throated Tinamou can be confused with several of the other Amazonian tinamous, but it is likely to mostly overlap with the distinctive Variegated Tinamou in the Terra Firme forest these two tinamous favor. Most other species of Amazonian Tinamous favor Varzea, floodplain, and second growth forest.

Status: The White-throated Tinamou is uncommon and nearly restricted to Terra Firme forest in the Amazonian lowlands. It is known to occur at elevations ranging up to 1100 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Perdiz de Garganta Blanca.

Sub-species: White-throated Tinamou (Tinamus guttatus) Pelzeln, 1863.

Meaning of Name: Tinamus: Tinamu (Galibi) Cayenne Language. Native name for this type of bird.  Guttatus: L. guttatus, gutta= painted with spots.
