Identification & Behavior: ~14.5 cm (5.7 in).  The Amazonian Scrub-Flycatcher has gray back, head and breast. It has a bushy round crest and a short black and stubby bill. The belly is yellowish. It has two brownish wing bars. The tail is relatively long. It forages in second growth perhaps associated with courses of water. It is similar to the Southern Scrub Flycatcher but is distinguished by a duller plumage with brownish wing bars and only some yellow on the lower belly.

Status: The Amazonian Scrub-Flycatcher is rare, or overlooked but widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 1000 m along the east slope of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Moscareta Matorralera Amazónica.

Sub-species: Amazonian Scrub-Flycatcher (Sublegatus obscurior), Todd, 1920.

Meaning of Name: Sublegatus: L. sub near to and legatus= Genus of a flycatcher. Similar to a Legatus. obscurior: L. obscurior, obscurioris, obscurus= darker, dark, obscure.
