Identification & Behavior: ~12.5 cm (5 in). The Yellow-bellied Chat-Tyrant has brown upperparts including the rump. The crown is dusky-gray. The long superciliary is yellow. The wing coverts are blackish with two rufous wing bars. The bill is black. It has a yellowish eye ring. The underparts are dingy yellow. It forages in the understory of humid montane forests. It is similar to the Crowned Chat-Tyrant but is distinguished by the yellow superciliary and dingy yellow underparts.

Status: The Yellow-bellied Chat-Tyrant is uncommon in montane forests of the east slope of the Andes on the north side of the Marañon Valley at elevations ranging between 2300-3100 m. It also occurs in Co and Ec.

Name in Spanish: Pitajo de Vientre Amarillo.

Sub-species: Yellow-bellied Chat-Tyrant (Ochthoeca diadema gratiosa), (P. L. Sclater), 1862.

Meaning of Name: Ochthoeca: Gr. okhthos= bank, mound and oikos, oikeo = dwelling, to inhabit. diadema: L. diadem= royal head-dress.
