Identification & Behavior: ~12 cm (4.7 in). The Gray-chested Greenlet has olive upperparts with grayish on the nape and sides of the neck. The underparts are mostly gray with yellow on the sides of the breast. The iris is pale. The bill is brown. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of forest edges and broken forest in Amazonia generally away from mixed species flocks. It is similar to the Dusky-capped Greenlet but is distinguished by having gray underparts and pale iris. Also, see Lemon-chested Greenlet.

Status: The Gray-breasted Greenlet ranges south of the Amazon and lower Marañon Rivers. It also occurs in Co, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Verdillo de Pecho Gris.

Sub-species: Gray-chested Greenlet (Hylophilus semicinereus juruanus), Gyldenstolpe, 1941.

Meaning of Name: Hylophilus: Gr. hule= woodland, forest and philos= lover. semicinereus: L. semi, semis, semissis= half and cinis, cineris= ashes; cinereus= ash-grey.
