Identification & Behavior: ~8.5 cm (3.3 in). The male Sclater’s Antwren has the head and rest of the upperparts broadly streaked with black and yellow. The throat and rest of the underparts are bright yellow.  The tail is very short and black without a white terminal band. The female is similar to the male but has the head streaked with yellow-buff and black. It forages in thick foliage and vines in the canopy often in the company of mixed species flocks. It is similar to the Pygmy Antwren and Moustached Antwren but is distinguished by having a yellow throat.

Status: The Sclater’s Antwren is fairly common and widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 700 m along the foothill of the Andes. It ranges on the south side of the Amazon and Ucayali Rivers. The Sclater’s Antwrennt also occurs in Br and Bo.

Meaning of Name: Myrmotherula: Gr. Combination word myrmothera= a genus (Velliot,1916, antpitta) Myrmotherula= diminutive of Myrmothera. sclateri: In honor of Dr. Philip Lutley Sclater (1829-1913) English ornithologist, collector.
