Identification & Behavior: ~14.5 cm (5.7 in). The male Lunulated Antbird is all gray with a white throat and broad white superciliary. The tail is solid gray. The female is brown with a white throat and brown scaling on the back. The tail is also barred with whitish. It forages in the understory of terra firme forest and to a lesser extent in floodplain or varze forests. The very similar White-throated Antbird occurs on the opposite side of the Amazon and Ucayali Rivers. The range of these two antbirds does not overlap.

Status: The Lunulated Antbird is uncommon to rare but widespread in Amazonia. It also occurs in Ec.

Name in Spanish: Hormiguero Lunado.

Sub-species: Lunulated Antbird (Oneillornis lunulatus), (P. L. Sclater and Salvin), 1873.

Meaning of Name: Oneillornis: A genus name in honor of John Patton O’Neill (b. 1942) US ornithologist, field-worker, bird artist. lunulatus: L. luna= moon, lunula= little, lunulatus= crescent-shaped.

Formerly known as Gymnopithys lunulatus (2017).
