Identification & Behavior: ~15.5 cm (6.1 in). The Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper has chestnut-brown upperparts and head. The underparts are heavily spotted with white. The bill is dusky, slender, and straight. It forages along streams with vegetated edges. It is similar to the Gray-throated Leaftosser but is distinguished by smaller size, by white-spotted on the underparts, and by a very specific foraging habitat along the edges of forest streams.

Status: The Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper is rare in montane streams of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 500-2300 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Riachuelero.

Sub-species: Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper (Lochmias nematura sororius) P. L. Sclater and Salvin, 1873. coastal range of N Venezuela (Yaracuy E to Distrito Federal), and the Andes from Colombia (Valle and Cauca in W range, W slope in Cauca in C, and S from Cundinamarca in E range) S to N Peru (S to San Martín).

Meaning of Name: Lochmias: Gr. lokhme, lokhmaios= thicket, thicket-dwelling. nematura: Gr. nema, nematos= thread and ouros, oura= tailed, tail.
