Identification & Behavior: ~24.5 cm (10 in). The White-necked Parakeet has a dusky top of the head and nape, bright orange ear patches, and creamy sides of the neck and breast. It has a noticeable pale orbital skin. The bill is dusky. The tail is maroon. It has red on the leading edges of the wings. The plumage of the White-necked Parakeet is unmistakable in its restricted range. Also, see Maroon-tailed Parakeet.
Status: The White-necked Parakeet is uncommon in the Cordillera del Condor in extreme northeast Peru. It is not known to occur outside its limited range in Peru. It also occurs in Ec.

Meaning of Name: Pyrrhura: Gr. purhos= flame-colored, red. Ouros= tailed. albipectus: L. albus=white and pectus= breast.
