Identification & Behavior: ~16.5 cm (6.4 in). The Barred Parakeet has fine dusky barring throughout its body. The bill is pale. The tail is relatively short and pointy. It is generally inconspicuous and more often seen in flight in small flocks. It may resemble the Andean Parakeet, but inhabits humid montane forests and is often seen in pairs or small, often quiet flocks.
Status: The Barred Parakeet is rare on the humid east slope of the Andes within 900-3300 m. It appears to occur in disjunct locations or it is perhaps overlooked due to its rarity and inconspicuous behavior. It also occurs in Co and Ec.
