Identification & Behavior: ~11 cm (4.3 in). The Wing-banded Wren has dark brown upperparts, a relatively short tail, and a broad white band across the middle of the wing. The throat, breast, and rest of the underparts are barred with black. It forages alone on the forest floor in Amazonian. It is a great songster easily heard when present. It is similar to the Scaly-breasted Wren but is distinguished by having a gray throat and breast, and by the white band across the wing.

Sub-species: Wing-banded Wren (Microcerculus bambla albigularis), (P. L. Sclater), 1858.

Meaning of Name: Microcerculus: Gr. mikros= small and kerkos= tail. bambla: Perhaps a homophone of the French “bande blanche”= White band.
