Identification & Behavior: ~21.5 cm (8.4 in). The Rufous-webbed Bush-Tyrant is uniformly gray with a pale center of the belly and undertail coverts. The flight and tail feathers have extensive rufous webbing. The rufous webbed wings and tail are prominent during flight. It forages in Andean scrub, grasslands with scattered shrubs, and edges of Polylepis woodlands. It is superficially similar to a Smoky Bush-Tyrant but is distinguished by having rufous webbing on the wings and tail and by foraging in open habitats away from woodlands.

Status: The Rufous-webbed Bush-Tyrant is uncommon and widespread in the high Andes at elevations ranging between 3100-4600 m. It also occurs in Bo and Ch.

Name in Spanish: Ala-Rufa Canelo.

Sub-species: Rufous-webbed Bush-Tyrant (Polioxolmis rufipennis rufipennis), (Taczanowski), 1874.  Andes of Peru (S from S Amazonas, Cajamarca, and Lambayeque) and W Bolivia.
(Polioxolmis rufipennis bolivianus), (Fjeldså), 1990.  Andes of WC Bolivia S to extreme N Chile and NW Argentina.

Meaning of Name: Polioxolmis: Gr. polios= gray and xolmis=word of unknown meaning. rufipennis: L. rufus= red, rufous and pennis= winged.
