Identification & Behavior: ~18 cm (7.1 in). The Variegated Antpitta is grayish and brown with an intricate pattern that includes scales, spots, streaks, and bars. The cap and nape are gray. It has broad buff lores and mustachial streaks. The color structure is similar to that of Scaled Antpitta, which occur mostly on the east slope of the Andes and in patches in Amazonia. However, these antpittas are not known to overlap.
Status: The Variegated Antpitta is restricted to a relatively small area north of the Amazon and Napo Rivers. Not much is known about this rare Antpitta. It also occurs in Br.
