Identification & Behavior: ~18 cm (7 in). The Rufous-necked Foliage-gleaner is rufous-brown with a rufous tail. The throat and sides of the neck and superciliary are rufous framing a gray ear patch. The breast is streaked/speckled with rufous. It forages in dense understory where it is often associated with stands of bamboo. Its range overlaps with that of the Henna-hooded Foliage-Gleaner but their plumages are distinctive.

Status: The Rufous-necked Foliage-Gleaner is uncommon to rare in montane forests of the west slope of the Andes in Tumbes, Piura, and Cajamarca, at elevations ranging between 600-2650 m. It also occurs in Ec.

Name in Spanish: Limpia-Follaje de Cuello Rufo.

Sub-species: Rufous-necked Foliage-gleaner (Syndactyla ruficollis), (Taczanowski), 1884.

Meaning of Name: Syndactyla: Gr. sun= together and daktulos= toe. ruficollis: L. rufus= red, ruddy, rufous and collis, collum= necked, throated.
