Identification & Behavior: ~40 cm (16 in). The Chestnut-tipped Toucanet is all green, with a pale throat and chestnut tip of the tail.  The rump and undertail coverts are green. The bill is blackish with red-wine base and tip. It is similar to Emerald Toucanet and Blue-banded Toucanet but is distinguished by having red-wine on the base of a black bill, no blue breast band and green rump and undertail coverts.

Status: The Chestnut-tipped Toucanet is generally rare on the east slope of the Andes where it is known to range at elevations between 800 – 2100 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Tucancillo de Puntas Castañas.

Sub-species: Chestnut-tipped Toucanet (Aulacorhynchus derbianus), Gould 1835.

Meaning of Name: Aulacorhynchus: Gr. Aulax=scratch, groove and rhunkhos=tip. derbianus= in honor of Edward Stanleys, Earl of Deby, English zoologist and founder of Knowsley Menagerie and Museum.
