Identification & Behavior:~22 cm (8.6 in). The Chestnut-bellied Cotinga has gray upperparts, throat, and neck. The breast is dark brown and it is sharply set off by chestnut towards the rest of the underparts. Both sexes have a blackish cap with a semi-concealed rufous nape patch. It forages in humid elfin forests and humid scrub. It is similar to the Red-crested Cotinga but is distinguished by having a brown belly, a black cap (male) and chestnut belly and undertail coverts. It does not overlap with the closely related Bay-vented Cotinga.

Status: The Chestnut-bellied Cotinga is rare in its range. It has only been seen very close to the border between Peru and Ecuador. It is expected to range into the Peruvian territory at elevations ranging between 2600-3800 m.
