Identification & Behavior:~16 cm (6.2 in). The Northern Schiffornis is olive-gray with a tinge of brown on the throat and crown. It forages in the forest understory where it often perches on vertical stems. It superficially resembles a Gray-breasted Flycatcher but is distinguished by a much darker and uniform olive-gray plumage. It does not overlap with the closely related Foothill Schiffornis.

Status: The Northern Schiffornis is rare in the humid and semideciduous forest of extreme northwest Peru, in Tumbes.  It also occurs in Ec.

Name in Spanish: Shifornis Norteño.

Sub-species: Northern Schiffornis (Schiffornis veraepacis rosenbergi), (E. Hartert), 1898.

Meaning of Name: Schiffornis: In honor of Prof. Dr. J. Moritz Schiff (1823-1896) German surgeon, pioneer anatomist, physiologist and Gr. ornis, ornithos= bird. veraepacis: L. verus= true and pax, pacis= peace.
