Identification & Behavior:~12.5 cm (5 in). The White-browed Purpletuft is mostly gray-brown with white scaling on the underparts and white center of the breast and belly. It has a white crescent on the face and white stripe from behind de eye. The male has purple tufts on the sides of the breast which are lacking on the female. It forages in the forest canopy in Amazonia where it is often seen perched on tree tops. The patterned head is diagnostic but see the female Spangled Cotinga and Plum-throated Cotinga.

Status: The White-browed Purpletuft is uncommon and widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 850 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Iodopleura de Ceja Blanca.

Sub-species: White-browed Purpletuft (Iodopleura isabellae isabellae), Parzudaki, 1847.

Meaning of Name: Iodopleura: Gr. ioeides= purple-coloured and pleura= sides. isabellae: In honor of Isabelle Thirion (fl. 1846) wife of French naturalist Eugène Thirion.
