Identification & Behavior: ~17. cm (6.6 in). The Chestnut-bellied Mountain-Tanager is blue above and chestnut below. It has black sides of the head through the eye and red iris. It shows a distinctive black malar stripe. The Chestnut-bellied Mountain-Tanager forages in the canopy of montane forest usually in the company of mixed species flocks. The Chestnut-bellied Tanager is similar to the Fawn-breasted Tanager but is distinguished by having rich rufous or chestnut underparts, an often prominent black malar stripe, and by foraging in the canopy of interior and pristine montane forest generally at higher elevations. Status: The Chestnut-breasted Mountain-Tanager is uncommon in humid montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 2000-3400 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Tangara-de-Montaña de Vientre Castaño.

Sub-species: Chestnut-bellied Mountain-Tanager (Dubusia castaneoventris), (P. L. Sclater), 1851.

Meaning of Name: Dubusia: In honor of Bernard Aimé Léonard Vicomte Dubus de Ghisignies (1808-1874) Belgian politician, patron of the sciences. castaneoventris: L. castaneus= chestnut-brown and venter, ventris = belly.
