Identification & Behavior: ~18 cm (7 in). The male White-browed Blackbird is black with red throat, breast, upper belly and shoulders. The iris is dark. The female is brown with mottled upperparts and a broad pale superciliary. The underparts in the female are plain brown. The male is very similar to the Red-breasted Blackbird but is distinguished by having a white superciliary. Females are very similar and field identification is very difficult.

Status: The White-browed Blackbird is uncommon to rare Austral migrant in semi-open habitats and pastures in the department of Madre De Dios. It is expected in Peru during the months of May through November. The White-browed Blackbird also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Pecho Colorado de Ceja Blanca.

Sub-species: White-browed Blackbird (Leistes superciliaris), (Bonaparte), 1850.

Meaning of Name: Leistes: Gr. a robber, a plunderer. Meadowlarks sometimes take eggs and small young form other birds nests.. superciliaris: Mod. L. superciliaris, supercilium= eye-browed, eyebrow.
