Identification & Behavior: ~11 cm (4.3 in). The male Yellow-rumped Antwren has a gray head and breast with a conspicuous black cap. The rest of the underparts and underparts are yellow. It has contrasting black wing coverts with yellow wing bars. The rump is bright yellow but often covered by the folded wings. The female is a dull version of the male but has yellow-olive wing coverts and lacks the black cap. It forages in the canopy of humid montane forests generally as part of the mixed-species flocks. The long tail and active foraging behavior distinguish it from other yellow-bellied antwrens such as the Yellow-breasted Antwren.  It is not known to overlap with the also similar Rufous-rumped Antwren.

Status: The Yellow-rumped Antwren is uncommon in montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1000-1700 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Hormiguerito de Lomo Amarillo.
