Identification & Behavior: ~10 cm (4 in). The Plain Tyrannulet is mostly gray with yellowish flanks and lower belly. It has white superciliary and a pale eye-ring. The wing coverts are blackish with two brownish wing bars. It forages in young river created habitats and riverside scrub. It is similar to the Southern Beardless Tyrannulet but is distinguished by not having a bushy crest and by having black wing coverts with contrasting wing bars.

Status: The Plain Tyrannulet is a rare Austral migrant to southeast Peru. Most records come from the department of Madre de Dios. It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Inezia Simple.

Sub-species: Plain Tyrannulet (Inezia inornata), (Salvadori), 1897.

Meaning of Name: Inezia: In honor of Enriqueta Iñez Cherrie (b. 1898) daughter of US ornithologist and author of this genus George Cherrie. inornata: L. in= not and ornatus= adorned, decorated. Inornatus= plain, unadorned.
