Identification & Behavior: ~14.5 cm (5.7 in). The male White-throated Antbird is all gray with a white throat and broad white superciliary. The tail is gray barred with white. The female is reddish-rufous with black barring on the tail and scattered black barring on the back. It forages in the understory of terra firme forest and to a lesser extent in floodplain or varzea forests. The very similar Lunuated Antbird occurs on the opposite side of the Amazon and Ucayali Rivers and their ranges do not overlap.  

Status: The White-throated Antbird is uncommon and widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 800 m along the foothill of the Andes.  It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Hormiguero de Garganta Blanca.

Sub-species: White-throated Antbird (Oneillornis salvini), (Berlepsch), 1901.

Meaning of Name: Oneillornis: A genus name in honor of John Patton O’Neill (b. 1942) US ornithologist, field-worker, bird artist. salvini: In honor of Osbert Salvin (1835-1898) English ornithologist, Curator of Ornithology, Cambridge University 1874-1882, collector.

Formerly knowns as Gymnopithys salvini.
