Identification & Behavior: ~16 cm (6.2 in). The Orange-browed Hemispingus is mostly yellow-olive. The head is black with an orange superciliary. The throat and upper breast are concolor with the superciliary. It forages in thick foliage in the understory of humid montane forests. The Orange-browed Hemispingus is often associated with bamboo.  It is similar to the Black-capped Hemispingus, but their ranges do not overlap. Also, see Three-striped Hemispingus.

Status: The Orange-browed Hemispingus is uncommon to rare in montane forests of extreme SE Peru in the Puno where it is frequently recorded at about 3000 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Hemispingo de Ceja Naranja.

Sub-species: Orange-browed Hemispingus (Kleinothraupis calophrys), (P. L. Sclater and Salvin), 1876.

Meaning of Name: Kleinothraupis: Kleino: In honor of Nedra Kathryn Klein (1951-2001) American ornithologist. Gr. Thraupis= unidentified small bird, perhaps some kind of finch, mentioned by Aristotle. calophrys: Gr. Kalos= beautiful ophrus,ophruos= eyebrow, brow.

Formerly known as Hemispingus calophrys (2017).
