Identification & Behavior: ~12 cm (4.7 in). The Gray-mantled Wren has gray upperparts and a relatively long gray tail barred with black. The sides of the head are finely streaked with black and white. The underparts are white with barred undertail coverts. It forages in the forest canopy and subcanopy of humid montane forests nearly always in the company of mixed species flocks. It is similar to the Equatorial Graytail but is distinguished by having a longer tail coarsely barred with black and streaked sides of the head.

Status: The Gray-mantled Wren is uncommon to in montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 750-1800 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Cucarachero de Dorso Gris.

Sub-species: Gray-mantled Wren (Odontorchilus branickii branickii), (Taczanowski and Berlepsch), 1885.

Meaning of Name: Odontorchilus: Gr. odous, odontos= tooth and orkhilos= wren. branickii: In honor of Konstanty Grzegorz Graf von Branicki (1824-1884) Polish zoologist, collector, who planned to found a museum.
