Identification & Behavior: ~13 cm (5.1 in). The Euler’s Flycatcher has olive-brown upperparts, head, and breast. The belly is grayish or grayish-yellowish. The wing coverts are black with two broad light rufous wing bars. The bill is bicolored and has a poorly defined eyebrow. It forages in dense understory at or near forest edges and large openings. It is similar to the Alder Flycatcher but is distinguished by a more olive plumage, contrasting olive breast and grayish-yellowish belly, light rufous wing bars, and by foraging deeper inside the forest or forest edges. Status: The Euler’s Flycatcher is uncommon and widespread in Amazonia. Most birds in Amazonia north to approximately the Amazon River are Austral migrants expected in Peru during the months of May through October. Birds north of approximately the Amazon River are resident breeders in Amazonia. The Euler’s Flycatcher is known to range up to 1600 m along the east slope of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Sub-species: Euler’s Flycatcher (Lathrotriccus euleri bolivianus), (J. A. Allen), 1889.  S & SE Venezuela, E Ecuador, E Peru, much of Brazil (except N & SE) and NW Bolivia; some possibly migrate to Colombia.
(Lathrotriccus euleri argentinus), (Cabanis), 1868.  E Bolivia, N Argentina and Paraguay; migrates N into Amazonia of E Peru and E Brazil.
(Lathrotriccus euleri euleri), (Cabanis), 1868.  SE Brazil, NE Argentina and Uruguay; migrates N into Amazonia of NE Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

Meaning of Name: Lathrotriccus: Gr. lathrios= secret and trikkos= unknown small bird.
euleri: In honor of Carl Hieronymus Euler (1834-1901) Swiss settler in Brazil 1853, Vice-Consul in Rio de Janeiro 1867-1901, amateur ornithologist.
