Identification & Behavior: ~17.5 cm (7 in). The Andean Parakeet is mostly green with faint yellowish on the underparts. The bill is grayish. The tail is short and pointy. It forages in flocks in humid scrub and semi-open habitats, seldom in humid montane forests. It is similar to the Mountain Parakeet but is distinguished by a shorter and less pointy tail, more stocky body, and by being restricted to humid scrub on the east slope of the Andes. The ranges of these two parakeets may only have limited overlap.
Status: The Andean Parakeet is uncommon to rare on the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging within 2400-3900 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Meaning of Name: Bolborhynchus: Gr. Bolbos= a bulb and rhunkhos= the bill. orbygnesius: in honor of Alcide Dessalines d’Orgbigny (1802-1857), French naturalist and author.
