Identification & Behavior: ~21.5 cm (8.5 in). The Bluish-fronted Jacamar is iridescent green with a black bill and rufous tail and belly. Birds show a variable amount of a bluish cast on the forehead. They perch on horizontal branches in forest edge habitats where they wait for passing insects they catch on the wing. It is nearly identical to the White-chinned Jacamar, but they replace each other geographically.
Status: The Bluish-fronted Jacamar is fairly common in Amazonia, but it is known to range up to 1200 m along the foothill of the Andes. Found only on the south side of the Amazon and Marañon Rivers. It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Meaning of Name: Galbula: Gr. Galbula= a small yellowish bird. cyanescens: L. cyaneus= blue or dark blue.
