Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (7.2 in). The Golden-spotted Ground-Dove is grayish-brown with golden spots on the wings. The iris is dark. The bill is black. The tail and wings are black. It has no visible orbital skin. The upper tail coverts nearly reach the tip of the tail. It appears similar to the Black-winged Ground-Dove, but lack the white band on the wing and the orange orbital skink. It favors open relatively barren terrain at high elevations.

Status: The Golden-spotted Ground-Dove is common in grasslands and agricultural field in the high Andes at elevations ranging between 3100-4500 m. It also occurs in Bo and Ch.

Name in Spanish: Tortolita de Puntos Dorados.

Sub-species: Golden-spotted Ground Dove (Metriopelia aymara), Prévost 1840.

Meaning of Name: Metriopelia: Gr. Metrios= temperature, moderate and Peleia= a dove. aymara: in honor to the native Indian Aymara people of southern Peru, Bolivia, and northern Chile.
