Identification & Behavior: ~13 cm (5.1 in). The Golden-browed Chat-Tyrant has brown upperparts including the rump. The crown is dusky. The long superciliary is yellow (brighter on the loral area). The bright yellow part of the superciliary barely goes past the eye. The wing coverts are black with two broad rufous wing bars. The bill is black. The iris is dark. It forages in the understory of humid montane forests. It is similar to the Crowned Chat-Tyrant but is distinguished by having browner upperparts, yellowish eyebrows with bright yellow reaching past the eye, broad rufous wing bars, and by ranging at lower elevations.

Status: The Golden-browed Chat-Tyrant is fairly common to uncommon in montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1800-3100 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Pitajo de Ceja Dorada.

Sub-species: Golden-browed Chat-Tyrant (Ochthoeca pulchella similis), Carriker, 1933. E Andes of Peru (S Amazonas S to Junín).
(Ochthoeca pulchella pulchella), P. L. Sclater and Salvin, 1876.  S Peru (Cordillera Vilcabamba, in W Cuzco and adjoining Ayacucho) S along E Andes to NW & WC Bolivia.

Meaning of Name: Ochthoeca: Gr. okhthos= bank, mound and oikos, oikeo = dwelling, to inhabit. pulchella: L. pulcher, pulchra= beautiful, pulchellus= very pretty.
