The family Anhimidae is composed of a small group of large, heavily built waterbirds with long, robust legs and small heads and bills. For a long time they were thought to be closely related to the Galliformes because of similar bills, but they are instead more
closely related to ducks (family Anatidae). The family Anhimidae is restricted to the Neotropical region. There are 2 genera and two species of screamers known to occur in Peru. Photo: Horned Screamers. Creative Commons.
