Identification & Behavior: ~15.5 cm (6.1 in). The Buff-breasted Wren has rufous-brown back with no markings. The tail and flight feathers are rufous with black barring. The sides of the head are finely streaked with white and black. The broad superciliary and throat are whitish grading to buff towards the rest of the underparts. It forages in the understory and thickets around the edges of bodies of water. The Buff-breasted Wren is similar to the Moustached Wren but is distinguished by less patterned sides of the head, rufous-buff underparts, and no gray on the sides of the neck.
Status: The Buff-breasted Wren is uncommon and widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 500 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Sub-species: Buff-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus leucotis peruanus), (Hellmayr), 1921.
Meaning of Name: Cantorchilus: L. cantus, canere= song, to sing and orkhilos= wren. leucotis: Gr. leukos= white and otis, otos= eared, ear.
